Thomas Friedman has got some "loyal Saudi friends". He has told us so. In a recent article, he revealed their motives and identities. Obviously, he couldn’t hide his immense pleasure at their trust in his determination to undermine our beliefs, convictions and societies for the purpose of the survival of the state of Israel and to promote the "New American Islam", which preaches giving up our traditions, religious teachings and convictions in return for America’s favors and promises.
Those "loyal friends" of Friedman have been misled by his theories. It is only a matter of time before the carpet is pulled from under their feet and they are exposed for what they are. Those "loyal Saudi friends" share a lot of common ground with Friedman. However, there is one thing they don’t share with him: patriotism. His loyalty to his country is unquestionable. His love for his native land is such that he blindly supports all its actions and defends all its indefensible policies that are sure to bring disaster to its own people and the rest of the world.
Friedman has every right to believe that he has found the solution to the world’s ills and to prescribe to our part of the world the medicine he thinks we should take. And, we have every right to tell him where he can take his medicine. However, we know that if the United States takes seriously the ideas that people like Friedman recommend as foreign policy guidelines, bad days are ahead for the sole superpower — and also for the rest of the world.
Here is an example of the man’s skewed ideas: Anyone who considers the Palestinians who sacrifice their lives in defense of their dignity and freedom "martyrs", and not as suicide bombers, should not be allowed to enter, or live in, the United States. This rationale will lead the US government to empty the country of its seven million Muslims as well as preventing one billion Muslims from entering the US. Friedman seems to want the Congress to enact such a measure. American democracy is viewed as "the envied" democracy, which, he insists, should be taken as the ultimate example of freedom and justice because its president is elected in a "free and fair balloting" and our governments in the Arab world are not.
In the light of these realities, who is being ruled by "jerks"? In US every single Muslim and Arab feels threatened and is targeted, questioned, searched and detained in the name of a "just war." Is this democracy? Friedman and the American government are the last people on earth to know what our needs are. Our needs are expressed daily on the streets of the Arab world demanding an end to the bloodshed and aggression committed by the Israeli Army before the eyes of the whole world.
Furthermore, our "closed societies" have people who have retained their dignity and pride and who can courageously say "no" to a destiny chosen for them by aliens who have instilled in their own societies an intense hatred for others and the notion of expansion in the name of freedom and democracy.
Friedman uses the rhetoric of force and destruction against anything that is not American or Israeli. He abandons logic and embraces aggression in the belief that "means justify ends". Those who mislead their people with such views can lead their societies to disasters and alienation. Friedmans of the world, no matter what profits their evil minds can bring them, are destined to occupy the dark pages of history. Its golden pages are reserved for the martyrs who embrace death so that others can live with dignity. Reviled they may be by those who want them to lie down and lick their boots, but they are not prepared for that. They are sacrificing their lives to free their occupied land from one of the most sophisticated armies in the world — an army equipped with the most sophisticated weapons of oppression by "the envied democracy" of the world.
