JEDDAH, 7 April — Violators of the traffic rules will soon be able to pay their fines through the Internet, according to Lt. Col. Abdul Rahman Al-Moqbel, director of traffic in the Riyadh region. Speaking to Al-Jazirah newspaper, he said that efforts were under way to link the department with a national bank.
Deputy Governor Prince Sattam recently launched the Riyadh Traffic Department’s website, which provides information on traffic accidents and violations. Application forms for insurance and driving licenses have been made available on the net.
Al-Moqbel said the website was created as part of the department’s efforts to develop its administrative and field operations.
“We have developed several computer programs and established an Internet unit, as well as a division for development and administrative affairs,” he said.
Traffic offices in Riyadh have already been linked by a computer network. “Now, our reception halls provide integrated, highly organized and direct services,” the director said.
The department is using a computer network for administrative communications. “A software has been designed to register and analyze traffic accidents in Riyadh so that dangerous locations could be identified and tackled,” he said.
