Authorities of the College of Education at Mahayil Asir have taken action against a girl who circulated pornographic pictures, which she offloaded from the Internet, in the campus. The girl was suspended from the college for one week after her name and the crime she committed was made public. Her parents were also asked to give a written undertaking that she will not repeat the offense. Some 1,800 girls are studying in the college.

Criminal investigations department in Alkhobar arrested a gang of five car thieves recently. The gang members, in the age group of 19-22, confessed to stealing 40 cars from Alkhobar and Thuqbah in recent weeks.

Police said 49 cars and a truck were reported stolen from Riyadh on Thursday and Friday. Thirteen of the vehicles were stolen from Naseem district and 11 from Al-Dairah district, according to a police report. Meanwhile, 20 cars parked inside King Abdul Aziz Medical City in Riyadh were burgled and valuables, including cash and ID cards, were stolen.

Jizan police foiled an attempt to smuggle 245 kilograms of hashish, 500 narcotic tablets, 20 kilograms of qat into the Kingdom across the border. A Saudi was arrested with the contraband, according to a police source.

Jeddah police, with the help of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, busted an illegal brewery operated by some Asian expatriates in a rented apartment in Ruwais district, Okaz daily reported yesterday. The police found four barrels full of liquor and 45 bottles ready for distribution, Col. Muhammad Al-Maqati, director of criminal investigations in Jeddah, said.

Two unidentified assailants robbed SR2,000 from a retired official of the Makkah governorate Friday afternoon. Jamil Baljoun, 64, was withdrawing money from an ATM in the holy city, Al-Madinah said in a report yesterday. The two assailants got off their car, entered the ATM cubicle, took the money by force and fled before Baljoun could get any help. A passerby, however, had noted the number of their car. Police are investigating.
