DAMMAM , 26 April — Silver Storm surprised Rising Sun with a 1-0 win in a crucial match of the Eastern Province Football Tournament here at Dammam Saptco Football ground last Friday. Scoring the most beautiful goal of the tournament in his own inimitable way, K. Naeem put the Silver Storm in a leading position in the first half itself.
A direct free kick brilliantly netted by Naeem changed the complexion of the game. Soon after, Rising Sun missed a golden opportunity to score the equalizer. Forward C.N. Ifsurahman made a brilliant shot from the left flank which hit on the side bar of the goal post. Silver Storm survived a barrage of attacks from Rising Sun in the dying minutes to prevail 1-0.
Goalkeeper C. B. V. Musthafa made many super savings for Silver Storm. When the final whistle came in, the cheerful crowd simply could not react and they lifted in the air both the team captain K. V. Tajudheen and manager P. P. Abdurazak. Complimenting the victory, Silver Storm coach K. V. Hassan Koya said he has turned his team into a family as they challenge for the prestigious Eastern Province Football title.
In the mini football match for children, Blue Moon defeated Rising Sun, 1-0. During the first half, Rifad Abdusamad netted the winning goal for Blue Moon. Rifad not only succeeded in connecting a pass from Wasil Razak, but also made no mistake in shooting into the net, bringing cheer to his team. Blue Moon dominated through out the game kept on raiding the Rising Sun area and managed to break the backside. But most of the shots landed in the hands of goalkeeper Saba Samad who made some brilliant saves; otherwise the score would have gone more than half a dozen. Mishal Abdussamad, Wasil Razak and Najid Aboobacker showed their excellence in ball control and identified as the promise of the future.
