JEDDAH, 28 April — Former Somali Prime Minister Abdirizak Hagi Hussein reacted strongly recently to Ethiopia’s policy toward his country. He sent a personal letter to the Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi last week with a copy posted on several Somali websites. The letter said in part, “It’s an open secret that your government has been in violation of UN Security Council Resolution 733 (January 1992), which established an arms embargo on Somalia. There is evidence that your administration has been supplying weapons and ammunition to a number of Somali warlords in different regions in Somalia.” Hussein, who has been prime minister between 1964 and 1967) pointed out that Ethiopia should dissociate itself from warlords who continue to be obstacles to Somalia’s peace and stability.
