JEDDAH , 3 May — A Saudi man who knocked out two of a compatriot’s teeth in a fight had two of his own teeth extracted as punishment after the victim refused to pardon him.
Awdah Al-Zahrani was convicted of hitting Gharmallah Al-Zahrani in the face with a rock in a dispute over some land nine years ago, Al-Madinah said in a report published yesterday.
Awdah was jailed for one year, given an unspecified number of lashes and then ordered to pay $20,000 as a fine at the time.
But the victim refused to pardon him, an essential requirement under Islamic law to spare the aggressor from physical retribution, and insisted that two of his teeth were pulled out.
The decision was approved by the high court and the Supreme Judicial Council and carried out in public on Wednesday in Baha, 1,040 km southwest of Riyadh.
Al-Madinah did not specify how the teeth were pulled or who did it.
