JEDDAH, 8 May — Indian naval ship "INS Darshak" is expected to arrive at Jeddah Islamic Port for three days from Friday. The visit of the survey ship, commanded by Capt. Sridhar Sulsi Karnik, follows the recent visit to Jubail of Indian warships "INS Mysore" and "INS Godavari" in March. The ship, commissioned on April 28, 2001, was constructed indigenously by Goa Shipyard, Vasco-da-Gama. The vessel is 86 meter long and manned by 15 officers and 120 sailors with a displacement of 1,820 tons and can sail at a maximum speed of 18 knots. The ship can operate without logistic support for six weeks. The ship also carries Chetak — a variant of the French Alloutte helicopter that is used for embarking and disembarking survey personnel from otherwise remote or inaccessible areas, and undertaking aerial photography and aerial mapping tasks.
