RIYADH, 16 May — The Overseas Filipino Workers Investors Society (Ofwins) is inviting OFWs interested in basic investment literacy to attend a seminar on ABCs of Personal Savings and Investment to be held on May 24.
The seminar is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon at the Second Philippine International School in Riyadh.
According to Romie Cahucom, one of the pillars of Ofwins, the highlights of the seminar include maximization of savings rate for OFWs, overview of investment vehicles available for OFWs, awareness of high risks entailed in going into business and avoidance of all types of investment scams.
Ofwins, a Riyadh-based OFW group, is dedicated to the pursuit of investment literacy and financial independence for interested OFWs. Founded in year-2000, the group had been a partner in the “community outreach” program of the Philippine Embassy through the Philippine Overseas Labor Office.
Together with POLO, it had been conducting investment seminars in different camps within and outside Riyadh where there are a big concentration of Filipino workers. Seminars in various camps have the prior approval of employers or sponsors.
The ABCs of Personal Savings and Investment is the first of a series of monthly seminars conducted all-year-round by Ofwins.
The succeeding monthly seminars (from July 2002 to early 2003) will include the Basics of Fixed Income Investments (including T-Bills and T-Bonds), Fundamentals of Mutual Fund Investing, Introduction to Stock Investment, Project Feasibility Study and Business Strategy for Small Enterprises.
The seminars are open to all interested Filipinos on a first-come-first-served basis only. Those attending are requested to confirm attendance not later than one day before the seminar date.
