JEDDAH, 29 May — Dr. Abubakr Fakir, a South African who taught English at King Abdul Aziz University in Jeddah for more than 20 years, passed away in Cape Town, South Africa, last Thursday at the age of 64 after a short illness. During his stay in Jeddah, Dr. Fakir had many good friends and guided hundreds of Saudi students in the English Department. He wrote books on Islam and the Arabic language and was a regular contributor of English programs on Islam to Saudi Radio. His son Arafa is a former employee of Arab News.
