RIYADH, 30 May — Aston Martin, which Pierce Brosnan will drive in the new James Bond film this November, is now in Riyadh.
This new marque (V12 Vanquish) was unveiled along with Aston Martin DB7 model at a function to announce Haji Husein Alireza as the new agent for Aston Martin cars in Saudi Arabia.
British Ambassador Sir Derek Plumbly, Stefan Spruck of Aston Martin, and Ali Husein Alireza, director and manager of HHA, spoke on the entry of the technologically advanced new model that accelerates from 0-100 km in 4.7 seconds.
And in conjunction with electronic drive-by-wire throttle system fitted to the second generation 460 HP 6.0 liter V12 Aston Martin engine, the almost imperceptible gear changes are completed in under 250 milliseconds-less than the blink of an eye.
Some action shots from the old James Bond thriller 007 showed how Sean Connery kept his pursuers at bay by firing at them from a built-in defense mechanism in the armored car. He also outfoxed them by electronically changing the car’s registration number.
These shots, together with the unveiling of the vehicle amid a spectacular light-and-sound show, enlivened the launch ceremony, where a large number of princes and other distinguished guests were present.
“Saudi Arabia is the most important market for Aston Martin,” Ulrich Urban, chief executive officer of Aston Martin, told Arab News. He said they are targeting a sale of 40 units annually of these hand-crafted cars, which will cost SR400,000 each.
