JEDDAH, 4 June — A secondary school student in Taif died on Sunday of stab wounds sustained in a fight, Al-Nadwa reported yesterday.
The Arabic daily said the police are investigating the murder of S.H. Al-Qahtani, 19, a student of King Saud Secondary School in Hawiya.
The incident occurred when Al-Qahtani was returning from school after sitting an examination.
He was traveling in a Hilux pickup with a friend. When they reached Al-Salama district, Al-Qahtani stopped the pickup and went to a group of people and quarreled with them.
"Later Al-Qahtani engaged in a one-to-one fighting with S.A. Al-Baqami, 29, while others watched. The two later took out knives and started stabbing each other. Al-Qahtani fell dead after receiving two stabs on his chest and hand from his rival," the paper added.
Al-Baqami, who was also wounded in the fighting, was rushed to King Faisal Hospital where his condition was reported stable.
Al-Nadwa learned from friends and relatives of the two persons that there was a quarrel between them last week.
In another incident of vandalism, the Mercedes car of Dr. Ali ibn Saad Al-Ghamdi, in charge of assessment and examinations and head of the department of physical education at Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah, was found destroyed on Sunday.
Police are searching for the culprit, who had also poured inflammable chemicals on the car. Al-Ghamdi ruled out suggestions that it was the work of a student. "I maintain excellent relations with all my students and colleagues," he said.
This is the second time in less than two months Al-Qahtani’s car was attacked.
