JEDDAH, 6 June — A new Indian school, run by the prestigious Delhi Public School (DPS), will open its doors to students in Jeddah from April 2003, it was announced here.
Salman Khurshid, president of DPS Society, said the new school sought to meet Jeddah’s need for a state-of-the-art facility to impart "quality education at an affordable price".
He said DPS, which runs 85 schools by the same name in India, Kuwait, Sharjah, Doha and Nepal with 15 more in the pipeline, is reputed for its high standard of education. "It draws the creme of students as its high-caliber teachers offer a liberal, holistic method of teaching in an enviable academic atmosphere."
Because of the small number of students in each classroom, every student gets maximum personal attention from the teachers, Khurshid said at a press conference.
After Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam are prime candidates for DPS facilities, Khurshid added.
Initially, it will be a primary school catering for students from kindergarten up to fifth grade "but it will be upgraded to eighth grade later."
The school will offer both CBSE and "A" level courses. The location of the school, to be run under the aegis of Modern Education Foundation, will be announced later.
The foundation’s chairman, Mukhtarul Amin, was present at the press conference.
