KUWAIT, 9 June — Chairman of the Saudi Shoura Council Dr. Saleh ibn Abdullah ibn Humaid yesterday conferred with Kuwaiti Deputy Premier Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah after he arrived here on Friday evening on a visit to Kuwait, in response to an invitation from the Chairman of the Kuwait Umah Council Jasim Al-Khurafi. Dr Humaid was also due to meet Sheikh Jabir Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the emir of Kuwait, and Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah, the crown prince and prime minister.
Dr. Humaid said on arrival: “There are no specific issues for discussion during the visit. It is a cordial one.”
He praised the strong ties between the two countries, highlighting the importance of consultation and exchange of views.
With respect to the Shoura Council joining the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) Dr. Humaid said: “We are still exerting efforts and initiating contacts in this regard. We appreciate the support of the Kuwaiti Umah Council to our efforts in this context.” In response to a question on his vision to set up an Arab Parliamentary Council, he said: “We do not have a defined vision in this direction. However, the Kingdom is a member of the Arab Parliamentary Federation, which is engaged in unifying efforts of Arab Parliamentary Councils and serving the Umah causes.”
On his part, Al-Khurafi welcomed Dr. Humaid’s visit to Kuwait, noting that it would enhance further the excellent relations between the two countries. He stressed that Kuwait appreciates and will never forget the role of the Kingdom during the Iraqi invasion. (SPA)
