JEDDAH, 10 June — Madinah Governor Prince Muqrin has expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made for the successful conduct of this year’s Madinah shopping festival, which will be launched officially on Wednesday.
Prince Muqrin has been following the preparations for the monthlong festival on a daily basis for the past several weeks, Abdul Karim Al-Hunaini, undersecretary of the Madinah governorate, said in a statement.
Chairman of the Madinah Chamber of Commerce and Industry Abdul Rahman Al-Ruhaily commended the significant role played by both the electronic and print media in making the festival a resounding success.
A website in English and Arabic on the festival — www.almadinacity.com.sa — will highlight each day’s cultural and amusement programs. It will also give the locations of utilities, names of the winners in the various contests and the names of their sponsors. Weekly bulletins about the programs and other details will also be issued from Wednesday.
Matar Al-Sharif, secretary-general of the Madinah festival committee, said the festival has been planned after taking into account the interests of the visitors and the local people and learning the lessons from past experience. The people were asked to fill out questionnaires to get their views and suggestions on various programs.
There will be eight draws giving away more than 300 prizes including 20 cars, diamonds and gold jewelry.
He also pointed out that the organizers took special care to promote Saudization efforts by employing Saudi youths for most services and tasks related to the festival.
Various government agencies and charity organizations have also been geared up to serve the visitors to the festival.
