RIYADH, 15 June — Saudi Telecom Company will slash international telephone call charges by up to 63 percent to 223 countries from July 1, according to Aarif Al-Suwaidan, director of public phones.
The company will charge SR5 per minute instead of SR5.5 for calls to India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and SR4.5 in place of SR5.5 for calls to Pakistan, he said.
People making calls to the United States and Canada will enjoy a 25 percent discount as the charges to the region will be cut from SR4 to SR3 per minute.
Telephone charges to the Gulf countries will be reduced by 15 percent from SR2.6 to SR2.2, Suwaidan said, adding that the rates to other Arab countries will be cut by 16 percent from SR4.5 to SR3.8 per minute.
The new discounted charges will not cover calls to Afghanistan, South Africa, Malaysia, Yugoslavia and some other countries, he pointed out.
