JEDDAH, 17 June — Prince Abdullah, the regent, held talks here yesterday with Sudan’s President Omar Al-Bashir on Middle East situation and denounced the Israeli atrocities against innocent Palestinian civilians. Both leaders called for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital. The Saudi Press Agency said Prince Abdullah and Bashir also discussed the Saudi-inspired Arab peace initiative aimed at achieving a comprehensive peace settlement in the region. The talks were attended by Prince Sultan, second deputy premier and minister of defense and aviation, and other high-ranking officials. The Sudanese side was attended by Dr. Qutb Al-Mahdi, presidential adviser for political affairs, and Dr. Mustafa Othman Ismail, foreign minister. Prince Abdullah also held talks with US President George W. Bush over telephone on the Palestinian issue and global efforts to revive peace negotiations.
