DAMMAM, 18 June — The $715-million Indian IT giant Wipro has launched its operations in Saudi Arabia. Suresh Vaswani, president of Wipro Infotech, said Wipro will offer in the Kingdom technology services and consulting services.
Wipro, with its headquarters in Bangalore, is a global IT services major. It is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and is the world’s first SEI CMMI level 5 certified software services company. He said Wipro was also the world’s first PCMM level 5 certified company.
Vaswani said Wipro had launched its Middle East operations in Dubai last year. During that period the company received encouraging responses from customers in the region, he said. It has recently won the project from Dubai e-government to manage data center operations in Dubai Internet City. Vaswani said Wipro’s entry into Saudi Arabia is part of its strategy to become a leading IT services provider in the region.
In the Kingdom, Wipro has made an aggressive start by bagging a prestigious ERP implementation project based on SAP technology from Saudi Polyolefins Company. The company is a joint venture between Saudi National Petrochemical Industrialization Company and Basell, the world’s largest polyolefins company.
Commenting on the link with Wipro, Saleh F. Al-Nazha, president and managing director, Saudi Polyolefins, said this ERP project is critical as it integrates all core business processes in the company. “We were looking for an IT partner which possessed the requisite skills, quality processes and the commitment to implement the solution. We found Wipro to be the ideal partner, and have complete faith in their abilities.”
He said Wipro has appointed Dammam-based Dar Al-Riyadh Consultants as marketing representative. “Given Wipro’s focus on quality processes and technology skills, and their deep understanding of local business practices, we believe that we can address customers’ IT requirements most effectively,” he added.
Prince Turki A. Abdul Rahman, president of Dar Al-Riyadh Consultants, marketing representatives of Wipro in the Kingdom, said “We believe that with a combination of Wipro’s proven abilities and our diverse experience in oil and gas, petrochemicals, infrastructure and power segments, we will be able to offer the best of IT services to our customers.”
