RIYADH, 21 June — The OFW Investors Society (OFWINS) is inviting Filipinos interested in basic investment literacy to attend a seminar on “fixed income investing” and “mutual fund investing” on June 28. The seminar is scheduled from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Philippine Embassy.
The “fixed income investment” portion (Basics of Fixed Income Investment) will essentially explain the how’s and why’s of investing in fixed income investment vehicles such as T-Bills, T-Bonds and 5-year special time deposits under Philippine setting. This module also includes a practical primer on “money management.” The “mutual fund investing” module (Fundamentals of Investing in Mutual Funds), on the other hand, will cover the essentials of investing in mutual funds both under the Philippine setting and under international/global setting. A highlight of this module includes ways of detecting and avoiding mutual-fund-like investment scams.
The seminar will be conducted by OFWINS in coordination with the Philippine Embassy through the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO).
Ofwins is a Riyadh-based OFW group which has been at the forefront of the campaign for investment literacy and financial independence for OFWs. The activity is the second of a series of monthly seminars conducted all-year-round by Ofwins.
The first of the series, ABCs of Savings and Investment was conducted on May 24 at the Second Philippine International School and proved to be so successful and so well-attended as to prompt the organizers to find a much bigger venue for the next seminars.
The succeeding monthly seminars offered by OFWINS (from August 2002 to early 2003) will include Introduction to Stock Investment, Project Feasibility Study and Business Strategy for Small Enterprises.
The seminars will be open to all interested parties on a first-come-first-served basis. Attendance should be confirmed at least a day before seminar date.
