RIYADH, 2 July — Singapore has eased visa restrictions for registered Saudi businessmen tightened in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks in the United States, the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry said yesterday.
Saudi businessmen who are chamber members will now be able to travel to Singapore for business or tourism without local sponsors, the chamber said in a statement. However, those who wish to get the visa should carry a letter of introduction from the chamber.
The relaxed regulation is expected to boost commercial and industrial exchange between the two countries.
Singapore in October tightened entry requirements for passport holders from five nations — Iran, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Pakistan — demanding they get visas because of the “global security situation.” Nationals from the five countries were required to have local sponsors for their visa applications.
