Sri Lankan held for smuggling: A Sri Lankan was arrested and fined SR3,500 for smuggling prohibited gold and jewels into the Kingdom through Riyadh’s King Khaled International Airport. The smuggled articles were seized by the Customs.

Police probing woman’s death: Dammam police are currently investigating the death of an African woman whose body was found at a lonely location in the western part of the city. Though the body has not yet been identified, preliminary inquiries have revealed that the woman in her late 20’s was an overstayer after last year’s Haj. The body, which was discovered by a Saudi national, did not show any signs of physical violence.

Five Saudis killed in car crash: Five members of a Saudi family were killed and eight others critically injured when a car carrying them caught fire after overturning on the International Road, 100 km from Rafha in the northern part of the Kingdom. Local police said the cause of the accident was a burst tire. The head of the family, who was driving the car, and his two daughters died on the spot while two sons died at the Hafr Al-Batin hospital.

Bride’s jewelry burgled: The wedding function of a bride in Tubarjal in Al-Jawf region was marred as she lost all the jewelry she was to wear next Friday, the scheduled day of marriage. Her ornaments worth SR150,000, bought by her bridegroom, were burgled along with her mother’s and sisters’ jewelries. Police are investigating.
