RIYADH, 4 August — Two Saudis died and six others were injured by lightning as heavy summer rains lashed the mountains of southwestern Saudi Arabia, Okaz reported yesterday.
The eight men were sheltering under a tree when the lightning struck on Friday in Taif, the daily said, quoting civil defense sources. Three of the wounded were admitted to hospital while the other three received first aid.
Meanwhile, a family of four drowned on Friday while swimming in the Red Sea off Jeddah, the daily said. The mother and father died trying to rescue two of their children who were swept away by the high tide. A newborn baby was left on the beach with his grandmother.
