Experts in international law should throw away their old textbooks and forget the lectures given by eminent professors on the topic. The experts should submit themselves to a thorough brainwashing in order to get rid of old words which have recently lost their meanings. The old meanings and values are no longer fit for consumption and should be thrown away like empty ketchup bottles. The experts must then return to their universities and research centers at Harvard, Georgetown and Johns Hopkins to re-educate themselves on the values of the new Rome.
No scientist or philosopher would reasonably dispute the sum of two and two. Simple mathematical truths remain constant though there are points of disagreement in modern theoretical and applied sciences. The word "terrorism", for example, formerly stood for a universally understood evil. The whole world condemned it. At the same time, nobody in the past doubted the legitimacy of a people’s right to resist those who occupied their lands illegally. The United States gave full support to the Afghan people in their resistance to the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. The US has also played pivotal roles in the resistance to occupation and aid to freedom struggles in several countries. In the same way, no one formerly had any difference of opinion about the meaning of democracy.
Now, however, things have changed; the meanings of such words as terrorism, resistance, democracy, sovereignty, international legitimacy, peace, the United Nations: all these have undergone great changes in the new and present Age of Injustice. In the new world order, resistance is equated with terrorism. This transformation in the meanings of words makes people wonder if George Washington was a freedom fighter or a terrorist. And how should we refer to Charles de Gaulle, Nelson Mandela and others who fought for the freedom of their countries? Should we now call them terrorists? And what about the history books? Did they mislead and misinform us when many heroes who sacrificed their lives in order to liberate their countries were placed on a pedestal? These are questions, I fear, which will be neither addressed nor answered in these sad times.
