JEDDAH, 13 October — A Saudi national has threatened to take legal action against a national company entrusted with the task of demolishing a dilapidated building in the Souq Allail district of Makkah.
Mohammed Ali Ashour, the Saudi, told Al-Madinah newspaper that the company used bulldozers to demolish the house, in the process causing damage to his house and other nearby buildings.
The company won the contract after a special municipality panel gave the go-ahead for the demolition of buildings that were in a state of dereliction.
Ashour says that an expatriate contractor working for the national company took more than 15 days to pull down the building and then simply left the debris in the street, hindering the movement of people.
Jamal Hariri, undersecretary at the Makkah Municipality, told the Arabic language daily that his department will look into the complaint and take any appropriate action against the offending contractor.
