RIYADH, 18 October — The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Ruud Lubbers, said after a visit to the Iraqi refugees’ camp in Rafha that he was impressed by the way the camp was being run.
Lubbers’ visit covered the schools, health center and UNHCR office and was briefed on the facilities rendered to the refugees. He met with some of the Iraqi refugees in the camp and promised them to do his best to solve their problems with the help and cooperation of the Kingdom.
Commenting on his visit to the camp, Lubbers said every organization in the camp was working hard to help the refugees.
He added that he was quite satisfied with the efforts exerted for the rehabilitation of the refugees, citing the Kingdom’s approval to provide permanent sanctuary to 2,000 Iraqi refugees on condition that the remaining 3,000 refugees are given permanent sanctuaries in other countries. In an interview with Al-Riyadh, Lubbers said he valued the Kingdom’s humanitarian assistance to the refugees which is a part and parcel of its support for humanitarian causes worldwide.
He said the services rendered to the refugees in Rafha camp are unparalleled in the world and the refugees are well taken care of and have nothing to complain about. (SPA)
