RIYADH, 27 October — More than 1,000 prominent Islamic scholars, personalities and preachers from around the world will take part in the ninth international conference organized by the World Assembly of Muslim Youth here from Oct. 29 to Nov. 1
Crown Prince Abdullah, deputy premier and commander of the National Guard, is scheduled to open the conference. Dr. Saleh Al-Wohaibi, secretary-general of WAMY, highlighted the significance of the conference as it comes at a time when Muslims face strident smear campaigns and challenges posed by globalization.
He said 32 research papers will be presented in Arabic and 16 in English. They were shortlisted from 500 papers received by the organizers.
There will be separate sessions for women.
The conference coincides with the Riyadh-based WAMY’s 30th anniversary and its move to its permanent headquarters in Muhammadiya district on King Fahd Road.
Wohaibi said an Islamic book show will be held on the sidelines of the conference with the participation of major publishers.
WAMY has been active for many years to uplift the Muslim Ummah through social, educational and cultural programs.
The ninth conference is dedicated to the challenges encountering Muslim youth. There will be special sessions focusing on youth and economic globalization; cultural information and freedom; youth and political consciousness; cultural and educational liberalization; and dawa and globalization.
Under the title of “Youth and economic liberalization” the conference will discuss the impact of globalization on job opportunities for the youth, new investment opportunities, brain drain and flight of capital from Muslim countries, Islamic banking and experiences of financial institutions.
The challenges posed by the information technology revolution will be the focus of another session.
