RIYADH, 31 October — The mandatory third-party vehicle insurance law, which comes into effect Nov. 20, will require a person to produce an insurance policy to get his driver’s license renewed. Brig. Fahd Al-Bishr, director general of the traffic department, told reporters here yesterday that the law will cover license holders who drive private and public vehicles, diplomatic vehicles, equipment and motor cycles. "It will be applicable to those who want to get their licenses renewed or get a replacement for a lost one," he said. Bishr said all drivers involved in accidents will be required to produce an insurance policy to complete the paper work. He put the financial losses caused by road accidents in the Kingdom at SR21 billion a year. Saad Al-Marzouki, assistant director of the National Company for Cooperative Insurance said his company will open its branches at traffic offices, adding that the company will pay damages up to SR5 million.
