JIZAN, 2 November — An early morning fire completely destroyed the Al-Muhaidib building material stores on Sabiya Road in Jizan town.

It took more than six hours of hard work for fire tenders, fire men and employees of the company to bring the towering inferno under control, according to Col. Abdul Rehman who led the Civil Defense team. Al Muhaidib is one of the biggest chain of building material stores spread all over the Kingdom.

Police cordoned off the area and traffic on Sabiya Road was diverted from both sides for public safety and to allow fire tenders as well as ambulances to reach the site without obstruction.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started at around 5.30 a.m. in the Muhaidib company warehouse where logs of wood, insulation rolls as well as steel were stored. Fire started from one corner and spread to other stocks of wood. According to an employee of the company 90 percent of the stocks were gutted. He estimated the damage around SR7 million. Branch Manager Faraz Al Hardi refused to give any estimate of the damage. What caused the fire was not known.
