RIYADH, 4 November — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd has called on people to pray today for rain as several parts of the Kingdom are still to get the first rain of the season.
“In view of the country’s and people’s need for rain, and in line with the teachings of our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) ... King Fahd has called for prayers for rain to be held across the Kingdom on Monday,” Saudi Press Agency said.
The call followed heavy rains in the Eastern Province, the southwest and some parts of the northwest over the past few days. But most of the Kingdom’s central region, including Riyadh, the north and southeast have seen virtually no rainfall this season.
Prayers for rain are common during the winter months in the Arabian Peninsula where most drinking water is obtained by desalinating sea water.
