JEDDAH, 5 November — A panel has been set up to investigate the disappearance of an Egyptian baby girl from the Riyadh Medical Complex, Al-Jazirah daily reported.
The paper said the baby disappeared while she was lying with her mother. This is the third such incident reported at the complex, the daily added.
Health Minister Dr. Osama Shubokshi said Interior Minister Prince Naif had ordered a panel to investigate the circumstances that led to the baby’s disappearance.
The minister said the mother might have hidden the baby after finding that it is a girl, fearing her husband’s anger as the couple already have four daughters.
“The baby was lying with the mother inside the maternity and children’s ward of the hospital,” he said.
“We have instructed nurses to be with patients day and night, especially when the newborn babies are with their mothers,” the minister said. “But troublemakers come at a time when there is no nurse or guard around,” he added.
