JEDDAH, 23 December 2002 — A Saudi shot an elderly man and his son in a suburban district of Makkah on Saturday. While the elderly man was injured in his thigh, a bullet pierced the son’s hand. Both victims are in hospital.
Police are hunting for the assailant, Al-Watan newspaper reported.
The elderly man was on his way to buy some food when the assailant arrived in a car carrying a gun in his hand. When the man opened fire the old man ran back to his house. Then his son came out of the house to confront the attacker. Soon he started shooting again and both the father and son were injured. The assailant was stalking the house when the police arrived. An accomplice of the man waiting in the car was arrested while the assailant fled the scene.
The son had filed a case against the assailant following a dispute between them last year. The man repeatedly pestered him to withdraw the case and kept threatening the father and son when they did not comply with his demand.
