JEDDAH, 9 August 2003 — “We have had a fruitful relationship with the media in Saudi Arabia, and tonight we wish to honor that,” said H. K. Seo, General Manager LG Electronics in his welcoming remarks to the media men and women assembled at a reception and dinner in Jeddah on Tuesday.

The event was to mark the contribution the media makes to communications in general and its role in the development of society. Seo highlighted the role of journalists in social development and commented on LG’s participation in social activities and its wish to promote relations with the media.

LG Electronics, known for its aggressive marketing policies, made PR an important and integral part of their overall marketing policy. Organized on a global level, the company systematically aims at making friends in the media.

Among those representing the media were Khaled Al-Maeena, editor in chief Arab News, Farooq Luqman, editor in chief Malyalam News, Saleh Bogary, deputy managing director Al-Khaleejiah, Tariq Mishkhas of Urdu News, Syed Imran Ahmed of Saudi Gazette, together with a wide cross section of men and women journalists and editors from Saudi publications and radio.

Al-Maeena spoke on behalf of the journalists and thanked LG for the reception. “The link between written and electronic media is not just one of simple commerce,” he said, “it has a more subtle dimension. Incoming companies bring new cultural input and management ideas as well as products, and this creates a dynamic interface between societies where we can all learn.”

Journalists representing 10 different newspapers and magazines participated in this dedication night.
