RIYADH, 19 August 2003 — The impact of globalization on Saudi educational priorities will be the theme of a symposium at King Saud University’s Faculty of Education here on April 17, 2004.
A statement from the faculty said specialists, researchers and educationalists have been asked to submit their papers on Oct. 18 this year.
The seminar aims for a comprehensive view of globalization and its impact on the Saudi education system and seeks to specify the new roles of educational institutions made necessary by the phenomenon. “In addressing the challenges posed by globalization, tremendous levels of cooperation are needed to uncover the negative and positive aspects of our educational system and in order to meet the knowledge, education and learning challenges of the new age,” the statement said.
“Our Islamic education is able to adapt to the new changes brought about” by globalization, the statement said adding that an important topic to be addressed by the symposium was “globalizing Islamic education.”
Other topics at the event include Islamic identity, the concept of citizenship, world peace issues and educational and cultural diversity. “The changing and unchanging aspects of Saudi curricula, developing the curriculum, the cultural and social changes in our society and new trends in teaching will also be discussed, “ the statement added.
