The hawks in the American administration were very happy to launch war against Iraq. President George W. Bush, one of the hawks, decided on war notwithstanding objections from the UN and many of its allies. He also ignored demonstrations by his fellow Americans who opposed the war.
After their success in Iraq, hawks turned to their other military and political programs in the Middle East. In the past, America complained about the Soviet Union launching wars and ironically it is behaving just as the former communist country did.
America used its most advanced technology and deadliest weapons in Iraq. The Iraqi people are resisting the occupation despite their suffering; and of course they have no advanced weapons. America considered a preemptive war necessary against Saddam Hussein and his regime, even if it meant killing innocent Iraqi people.
The American hawks care nothing for democracy in Iraq or the Iraqi people’s human rights. They see themselves as above the law, especially since the world is in chaos. The hawks want to control American foreign policy, and as far as they are concerned, the occupation of Iraq is the first step in reshaping the Middle East.
Once the Americans had toppled Saddam and won the war in Iraq, they began to threaten Syria. Their threats were backed up and supported by the Zionists. A quick victory in Iraq whetted the appetite of the American hawks for more wars against the Arab and Islamic world. Such wars obviously serve the best interest of Israel, and the hawks consider any country that threatens Israel a terrorist state and one which stands in need of regime change. At the same time, it is permissible for Israel to have WMDs while they should not be allowed in the Arab and Muslim world.
WMDs are a new policy that America uses to threaten the Arab and Islamic world. America and Israel accuse Iran and Syria of making these weapons. America began to provoke Syria long before American troops were involved in Iraq. Because of the American media and their misleading the public about the real number of losses, Americans felt they were winning the war against Iraq and they supported the idea of launching wars against Syria or Iran; a chain of military victories was envisioned. American support for the war then dropped because of the number of soldiers dying in Iraq. It began to be whispered that the American president might lose a second term because of the war.
US National Security Adviser Condolezza Rice accused Syria of having WMDs, harboring terrorist Palestinian groups and also Iraqi leaders. Syria was also accused of cooperating with Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Syria was also said to be sending terrorist groups over the border into Iraq to carry out terrorist activities against the American army there.
Israel and the Zionist lobby in America began to circulate lies in order to create more problems between America and Syria. Israel has repeatedly lied about Syria’s receiving chemical weapons from Iraq before the war. The fact is that Syria has been calling for a Middle East free of chemical weapons. Israel and America say Syria is in need of democracy and change. Was America, we wonder, sent by God to impose its will and democracy in the world?
Because America is mired in Iraq, it is unlikely to launch a war against Syria; they may, however, pressure Damascus by imposing economic sanctions. The US hopes that Syria will agree to its demands for reshaping the Middle East and to convince Iran to leave Hezbollah in Lebanon for Israel to deal with.
No matter what America says, it is not even considering fighting Syria because at present it is too occupied in Iraq. It might ask Israel to take on Syria with American support and help.
We must also be wary of Israeli-Turkish cooperation. It appears that there is an American-Turkish-Israeli understanding on reshaping the area, including how to deal with Syria. To meet these threats, Syria needs the Arab countries to unite. If they are not united, Israel and the US will be encouraged to start a war in the region. We must strengthen the position of the Arab League and form a united army to face threats.
