RIYADH, 6 November 2003 — Bahraini King Hamad ibn Isa Al-Khalifa visited the Kingdom Center here on Tuesday evening. The king was welcomed on his arrival by Prince Alwaleed ibn Talal, chairman of the center.
The king was also received by Prince Khaled ibn Alwaleed and Talal Al-Maiman, executive general manager of the Kingdom Center.
Prince Alwaleed took his guest on a tour of some of the center’s projects, which include Kingdom Tower, Riyadh Four Seasons Hotel, Al-Mamlaka Mall and the Kingdom Conference Hall.
King Hamad expressed his admiration for what he had seen, saying Kingdom Center was a vivid reflection of Saudi Arabia’s development, adding that the center would be a great landmark for the country’s capital, Riyadh.
Commenting on the visit by the king of Bahrain, Prince Alwaleed said: “The king of Bahrain is a guest of Saudi Arabia and of Kingdom Holding Company.”
Last month, Crown Prince Abdullah, deputy premier and commander of the National Guard, officially inaugurated the center. A total of seven projects were inaugurated by the crown prince during the opening ceremony: Kingdom Center, Kingdom Tower, Al-Mamlaka Mall, Ladies Kingdom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Riyadh Four Seasons Hotel, and Kingdom Conference Hall. The total cost of the project was approximately SR3 billion.
Since its completion, the center has received national and international acclaim. The project received “The Best New Skyscraper of the Year 2003 Award” for Kingdom Tower, and “The Innovative Design and Construction of a New Project 2003 Award” for Al-Mamalaka Mall.
