RIYADH, 8 November 2003 — The United States said yesterday that US diplomatic missions in the Kingdom would close today to review the security situation.

An advisory by the US Embassy in Riyadh said: “The embassy continues to receive credible information that terrorists have moved from the planning to operational phase of planned attacks in the Kingdom.

“In light of the seriousness of the current threat, the embassy in Riyadh and the US consulates general in Jeddah and Dhahran will close on Saturday, Nov. 8, to review their current security posture.

“The American community will be advised when this review is completed and when the US mission plans to resume normal operations,” it said.

The embassy could close for more than one day to allow experts to assess security, an embassy spokesperson said.
