MUSCAT, 23 November 2003 — The Royal Oman Police has arrested four South Americans, including a young woman, for robbing money transporters belonging to banks in the Muscat Governorate.
The accused, three Peruvians and one Mexican, have admitted to the crimes and over 20,000 Omani riyals ($45,000) in cash have been recovered from their possession, an ROP statement said.
The statement added that the gang, who entered Oman as tourists in two groups, robbed a transporter and left Oman “for some other Arab countries.” They returned to the Sultanate and on Oct. 13 robbed another vehicle belonging to another bank.
“The accused were caught 24 hours after the second robbery at a hotel in the Sultanate,” the statement added.
