PATNA, 2 December 2003 — RJD chief Laloo Prasad Yadav has taken strong exception to state DGP D.P. Ojha’s outburst against politicians. “Ojha should not cross the limit,” he remarked while speaking to a section of the media here yesterday. Stressing that every post has its own limits, Laloo said, “He (Ojha) should work more and speak less.”
“The DGP has no right to make a public speech against politicians,” he added.
Incidentally, the DGP had described RJD leaders Mohammad Shahabuddin, Surendra Yadav and Azad Gandhi as “criminal-politicians” along with Sunil Pandey and Rama Singh, both MLAs, in his speech at a fair on Friday last. Ojha’s utterances have created a turmoil in the ruling RJD. Its leaders accuse Ojha of publicly trying to damage the party’s image by saying that power has gone into the hands of “lafanga(ruffian)” politicians.
RJD leaders Ram Kripal Yadav and Ram Vachan Rai, in a statement, charged Ojha with crossing the limit by making “obscene and unbecoming” statements against political leaders. They said it amounted to violation of the service code. “If he has to make this sort of statements, he should quit his post and start a public debate. There is a popular perception that a police constable uses vulgar language due to lack of education and proper upbringing. But if the DGP speaks the same language, just imagine what one will think of the police system,” they said, adding, “No police officer can abdicate his responsibility by saying that there is corruption and crime in the whole society and therefore the police cannot do anything.”
They said Ojha wanted to put the blame for his failures on others, and because he had failed to come up to expectation, he was under tremendous mental pressure.
