RAMALLAH, 15 December 2003 — Palestinians yesterday buried Fadwa Touqan, their most prominent female poet, but an Israeli military closure imposed on the West Bank city of Nablus prevented hundreds of people from attending the funeral. Known as “the poet of Palestine,” Touqan died in her hometown of Nablus late Friday night at age 87.
