HYDERABAD, 16 December 2003 — The Andhra Pradesh High Court yesterday stayed a lower court’s order directing the Anti-Corruption Bureau to inquire into allegations of corruption against Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in the procurement of liquor from private distilleries during 1997-2000.
The court was responding to a writ petition filed by the state government seeking the quashing of the orders of an anti-corruption judge.
Justice Y. Somayajulu of the high court suspended the order of the special court. The hearing of the case will continue today and R.K. Anand will argue on behalf of the Congress party.
On Friday, anti-corruption judge S. Anantasayana Prasad admitted a complaint against Naidu and others alleging irregularities in the purchase of liquor by the state-owned A.P. Beverages Corporation.
