RIYADH, 19 December 2003 — Dr. Nizar Obaid Madani, the Kingdom’s assistant minister of foreign affairs, wrapped up his three-day visit to Sri Lanka yesterday by signing a landmark accord to boost relations in the commerce, science, culture and youth affairs.
This was announced by Sri Lankan Ambassador Ibrahim Sahib Anzar here yesterday. “Colombo expects to attract more investment from the Kingdom following the signing of this cooperation agreement,” Ambassador Anzar said.
A joint economic commission set up under the agreement will hold its maiden meeting sometime next year.
The diplomat said the Saudi officials also discussed a range of other bilateral and international issues during their visit to Colombo, where they met Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando besides many other officials.
The Kingdom recently announced an SR40 million loan facility for road projects in Sri Lanka.
