JEDDAH, 19 December 2003 — Thirty-six Saudis including three women who were jailed after taking part in a demonstration in Riyadh in October have been released.

A source at Malaz Prison in Riyadh said the people involved were of all ages and have been asked to sign an undertaking never to commit similar acts again.

The detainees “expressed regret over their action and praised the security forces for treating them kindly following their arrest and throughout their detention,” Al-Madinah newspaper quoted the source as saying.
