DHAKA, 20 December 2003 — About 500 people rallied in Dhaka yesterday to demand that US forces free former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.

“Bush and Blair — not Saddam — be hanged for invading Iraq,” shouted the demonstrators from the Islamic Unity Movement. The protesters waved portraits of Saddam and carried banners that read “US troops must leave Iraq.” They dispersed peacefully.

Bangladesh opposed the US-led invasion of Iraq in March, saying the UN inspectors should have been given more time to find if Saddam was hiding weapons of mass destruction.
