JEDDAH, 20 December 2003 — The Singapore Embassy, Singapore Airlines and Holiday Inn hotels in Saudi Arabia are organizing a Singapore food festival from Jan. 4 to 31. The festival will be held at Al Salam Holiday Inn in Jeddah from Jan. 4 to 13, Holiday Inn Minhal in Riyadh from Jan. 15 to 24, Holiday Inn Al Hamra in Dammam from Jan. 26 to 28 and Yanbu Holiday Inn in Yanbu for two days from Jan. 30. Two chefs will be flown in from Singapore to specially create the tastes, smells and flavors of the island’s cuisine during the event termed “A taste of Singapore.” The chefs will help to prepare many of the popular Singapore dishes like chili crabs and chicken rice. A presentation showcasing the diversity of the Singaporean culture will be held at the Jeddah hotel to launch the event, Singapore Vice Consul Abdul Halim Mohamed Amin, Singapore Airlines’ Middle East general manager Manjit Grewal and Al Salam Holiday Inn general manager Ramez Nemeh told a press conference on Tuesday. In addition to highlighting the cultures of the multiracial society in Singapore, the event will also see a display of the colorful costumes of the island. “Festival guests have an opportunity to win tickets and cruises on Singapore Airlines and Star Cruises that operates cruise ships to Malaysia and Phuket,” Grewal said.
