JEDDAH, 14 March 2004 — Acer Computer (Middle East) today announced it will exhibit a broad portfolio of products to visitors at the Comdex Saudi Arabia. As part of Acer’s campaign to penetrate the Saudi market, the company is showcasing a vast array of products, from desktops and tablet PCs to notebooks and monitors.

It will showcase the products with its partners — Jarir Bookstore, BDL Computers and Aptec Gulf.

“Acer achieves success in Saudi Arabia because we react instantly to market needs,” said Philip Ashkar, director of sales and marketing. “We have noticed a trend in the market where consumers are demanding easy-to-use and enjoyable home entertainment options.”

Acer is putting on display the recently released Aspire 2000 mobile computer.

Featuring wireless Internet connectivity and broad compatibility with the latest devices, the Aspire 2000 boasts a 15.4” TFT color LCD wide-screen, which enables users to watch DVDs in on a wide screen without having to boot up the notebook, while the media-console allows effortless movement between MP3, CD or DVD playback. Additionally, the notebook boasts built-in speakers and subwoofer.

The Aspire 2000 offers exceptional processing speed and powers, along with storage flexibility via a 4-in-1-card reader supporting MultiMediaCard, Secure Digital, SmartMedia and Memory Stick. Utilizing ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 with 64MB of video memory for crisp, clear images the Aspire 2000 has cinematic quality graphics display.

“Home and business users in Saudi Arabia want more functionality from their notebooks,” said Sunil Nair, Regional Sales Manager, Saudi Arabia and Levant.

“For many people, it is not enough to have a machine that can only be used for word processing. With the Aspire 2000, a work environment is rolled into one with an entertainment centre,” said Nair.

First Class Home Entertainment Option on Display

Also at Comdex Saudi Arabia, Acer will have on display its entertainment-based desktop PCs - the Aspire RC500 - which can do everything from play movies and music to broadcast television and store photographs.

Acer believes the new Aspire RC500 will achieve strong sales in Saudi Arabia based on the growing home entertainment market.

“In Saudi Arabia, consumers are looking for PCs that provide an entire range of home entertainment options. Currently, Acer is the only player in the market providing consumers with such a comprehensive solution,” added Nair.

By rolling all elements of home entertainment into one platform, the Aspire RC500 is an economical solution.

“Featuring a wireless keyboard and mouse, the Aspire RC500 eliminates the mess that cables create and helps people to save space in the home. Additionally, with a Super Dial and remote control for easy navigation, the Aspire is as simple to use as a standard home appliance,” Nair said.
