ABHA, 15 April 2004 — Seven persons including an infant were killed and two injured by floods in the southern region.

The worst affected areas were in Asir, Najran and Jizan.

Floods severely damaged many roads and the traffic department closed a number of others. The police reported several accidents due to poor visibility. Two diesel trucks overturned on Mohayl road, blocking it for many hours.

Weathermen say the rains have been the strongest for the past five years. Farmers in Abha, Khamis Mushayt, Najran, Darb, Jizan and Mohayl are happy as they have been praying for rain.
