RIYADH, 25 April 2004 — Tributes poured in yesterday from the media and sports world for veteran sports journalist Ibrahim Nasser Abdullah Al-Mufaireej, who died in Wednesday’s bomb blast.
Ibrahim served a 12-year stint with the sports daily Arriyadiyah, a sister publication of Arab News, before moving to Al-Riyadh.
According to Ali ibn Nasser Al-Sharif, the managing editor of Arriyadiyah, Ibrahim was an indirect victim of the blast. “He just died, apparently of heart attack, when he heard the explosion. His body was intact,” Al-Sharif said.
Ibrahim was in the building of the former public security headquarters in Al-Washm district when the bombing took place.
Prince Faisal ibn Salman, chairman of the Saudi Research and Marketing Group, visited the bereaved family on Thursday to offer his condolences.
Saud Al-Mosaibi, an aide to Interior Minister Prince Naif, also came Thursday to relay the interior minister’s condolences.
Azzam Al-Dakhil, managing director of Saudi Research and Publishing Company (SRPC), and Arriyadiyah Editor in Chief Saad Al-Mahdi also paid their respects.
