RIYADH, 19 May 2004 — One of the Kingdom’s best-known car rental companies, Budget Rent A Car, has proposed using a satellite vehicle tracking system in an effort to monitor the movement of rented vehicles. The system will enable companies to pinpoint any vehicle’s exact location and, if necessary, immobilize it.
The proposal was made during a seminar hosted by Budget Rent A Car which has a fleet of over 10,000 vehicles in the Kingdom.
Referring to the problems faced by the car rental industry Fawaz A. Danish, Budget’s general manager, and M.S.A. Qureshi, regional manager, said, “We are giving priority to evaluating the profile of a customer who rents a vehicle.” They pointed out that each car rental company, including Budget, has a black list of customers.
“We have problems which range from collecting our fees from customers to recovering vehicles when a customer fails to return it at the end of the rental period,” said the Budget executives. In such situations, the proposed tracking system would be a great help to both the company and the police.
