RIYADH, 8 July 2004 — The Indian International School in Riyadh will construct a new complex to bring its two sections closer together. At present, the boys’ section in Rawdah district is three kilometers away from the girls’ in Al-Nahda, causing logistical problems for parents who have children at both locations.
The new building is due to be completed in 18 months. The school has some 9,500 students on its roll, of which half are girls.
“A new complex for the school has been long awaited to provide a better environment for the pupils and help enhance curricular and co-curricular activities of the school,” said Muhammad Niaz Ahmed Khan of the school management committee.
The school currently pays an annual rent of SR4.6 million for the two sites. The proposed complex, to be built on a 40,000 sq. m. site, will be on a long-term lease basis and will save the school 20 percent on its yearly bill.
The buildings will be located behind the new Geant Hypermarket. It will have over 300 classrooms with separate libraries, audio-visual classrooms, science laboratories, separate computer rooms for the middle grades and senior students, a cafeteria and a visitors lounge.
The school will provide facilities for gymnasium and indoor games for physical fitness, playgrounds, and a swimming pool for students and staff. In addition to the administrative block, the new school will have separate wings for junior and secondary sections. It will include a multipurpose hall with a capacity for 2,000 people and have an underground car park.
