ISLAMABAD, 11 July 2004 — Pakistan yesterday welcomed a ruling by the International Court of Justice against the construction of a wall by Israel in the occupied West Bank. “We welcome this decision by the ICJ, the court has upheld justice,” Foreign Office spokesman Masood Khan told AFP.
In a non-binding judgement Friday the world court ruled the 700-kilometer wall was a violation of international law and those parts that encroach on Palestinian territory should be dismantled.
“The dismantlement of the separation wall is the only legitimate course of action and would pave the way for the implementation of the quartet road map and remove several other roadblocks,” Khan said.
The quartet which is made up of the United Nations, United States, European Union and Russia has been trying to promote a peaceful settlement of the bloody conflict between Israel and the Palestinians.
