RIYADH, 13 July 2004 — A Sri Lankan woman who worked as a maid was executed in Riyadh yesterday for actively participating in the killing of her Saudi employer, the Interior Ministry said.
Badrunnisa Mibari was convicted of plotting with a Sri Lankan man to steal the money and jewelry of Sara bint Mohammad Al-Hakil, bringing him into her employer’s home while she was alone toward midnight on an unspecified date, said a ministry statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency.
When the Saudi woman resisted their threats to show them where she kept the money and jewelry, the unnamed Sri Lankan man strangled her to death “with the complicity and help of the maid,” before he made off with the booty, the statement said.
The alleged killer was tracked down and arrested by security authorities, and he will be tried and handed down a “deterrent” punishment, the statement added.
The ministry said Mibari was found to be the driving force behind the murder.
